Its so very hard to get your head around how people can be so affected by mind control but you really never know what the future holds - this friend cared enough to get in touch, who knows they may one day get in touch again - I just got in touch with someone I loved who left the organization 13 years ago and they are coming to dinner in a few weeks' time, its like we've never not been in touch. So, do not lose hope. Keep nurturing new friendships, its wonderful to have friends whose friendship is not conditional on what you believe. This forum is a great place to find support and friendship too. Well done also for coming to your senses at such a young age!

Why doesn't the majority win?
by JH ini'm sure that most of the jw's think that there are too many meetings a week.. i'm sure that most of the jw's find that the end is coming later than expected and don't dare talk about this openly.. i'm sure that most of the jw's don't believe everything they are taught.. i'm sure we could add more and more to this list.. so, why is it that the majority of jw's are being led by a very few, and afraid to stand up to them on any topic..

All down to mind control - none of the usual rules apply!

Devil and The Deep Blue Sea?
by sweet pea inhow do you view your friends who are still witnesses - do you look at them and wonder how you can get them out or do you think that many are best off staying where they are.
i find myself constantly wondering whether they would prefer to be where besty and i are now or whether they would be so traumatized by leaving when they have such a large family/network of jws that there is no point in even trying to help them to see the truth about "the truth".
some seem genuinely very happy to be a witness (even though its obvious that its all a struggle).

How did you feel when first posting on JWD?
by R.F. ini was in heavy doubt about the organization, but still in the back of my mind i was a bit hesitant of posting because it was the "unforgivable sin".
i think it took me 20 minutes to type my first post.
i still felt that once i submitted my post that a bolt of lightning was going to come down upon me, so my hands were shaking as i was typing.

I couldn't wait! It felt like the most natural thing in the world to do but then, I do wear my hear on my sleeve! As soon as I had read some posts I had the general feeling that this was a caring, no holds barred, open and fascinating place to be and contribute to and so there were no nerves - I had very quickly to come to see that the Borg was full of @&*% and had lied to me so I had no hesitation or fear of looking/posting. Thankyou to everyone who supported me in my early posts - I haven't been very good at replying to everyone on my posts so far... (sorry) :-)

...what was your 1st expirence like inside of a church?
by A-Team inwere you still a jw, or did you just leave?
what did you expect from a church, was it like you thought, etc.
what happened afterwards, especially if you were still a jw.

I've never felt too bad about going into a church (such a rebellious JW, I know) maybe it ahd something to do with the fact that when I was growing up our Kingdumb hell was in a church, can you believe it????!!!!!! I always make a point of visiting Cathedrals when I'm near them as the architecture always amazes me and makes me think about how the people building them must've had great faith and dedication (that, or they were paid an obscene amount of £££). I've been to a couple of Catholic weddings which always seem a bit bizarre with all the customs/ritual. However, this weekend we went to a wedding blessing in an Anglican church and it was wonderful, the Pastor gave a great talk and the singing was amazing (more to do with the band's singer) and if I lived nearer it would be the church of my choice so far. Haven't been to any local to me. If any of my JW friends knew I was contemplating it, they'd pass out. :-)

I have always considered myself a Christian but now without the JW label and am looking forward to developing an actual relationship with Jesus. I have started attending an Alpha Course and plan on visiting local churches to see what they're like - I'm also planning on a visit to the Holy Trinity Brompton - Anglican I believe.

Sharing a bed
by sass_my_frass inthis is ot (like half of the topics in 'friends'), and a bit personal, but i don't actually have that many friends that i can talk about this with, so here goes.... mr frass and i believe we're very happily married, and we're very affectionate.
trouble is, around midnight many nights, i'm finding that i can't get comfortable and sleep.
i need to turn around a lot, cuddle a spare pillow in *just* the right way etc.

Hi Sass I don't think this is sad, I reckon there's loads of us out there who just love 'sleeping' on our own - hubby and I do it occasionally when one of us badly needs some quality kip (mainly due to the demands of a young family), when we do, we always jump back into bed together for a cuddle (?!) in the morning. I also know of some very old friends who are totally still in love and have the strongest marriage I know and they regularly sleep in separate rooms so I think its down to how you view this, the effort you make to be together at other times and how your relationship is in other areas as to whether this has the potential to be a wedge that drives you apart. Hope this helps :-)

Lazy mornings in bed at the weekends, fun with "worldly friends", education/career and now my closest friends and my husbands family. Still, onwards and upwards now we are free...... and thankfully now my own kids will never have these things stolen from them.
